Self-produced Seeds

Self produced seedsSelf produced seedsSelf produced seedsssssproduction certified farmingThe Seeds used in the organic agriculture must be produced according to this organic method of production for at least a generation, all in accordance with the standard specifications of plant production according to the organic mode (O.G.R.T. N°19 of March 6, 2001).

However, be permitted, for a transitional period until December 31, 2020 (O.G.R.T. N°14 of February 16, 2016),the use of Seeds not obtained according to the organic mode of production under Article 5 of Law No. 99-30 of April 5-1999, relative to organic farming as much as the following conditions are satisfied :

  • Seed Users may prove a way deemed sufficient by the national commission for organic farming, they could not obtain in local markets propagating material for an appropriate variety of the species question.
  • The seeds used are not treated with pesticides not contained in two annexes of the standard specifications of plant production according to the organic mode.

So, to facilitate the availability of information for organic operators, the Technical Center of Organic Agriculture prepared in collaboration with the various agricultural organizations during each crop year, a database relating to the preliminary list of self produced organic and untreated seeds in Tunisia.
